You are correct that the size and weight of heavy-duty steps like # S-150 and # SASXLA-09C-G make them less than ideal for transport inside a rooftop cargo box like the Thule Force XT # TH6356B. You should have no issue hooking up your trailer battery to the same 12 volt wire that charges your breakaway battery. You will just need to make sure that you do not drain the batteries when they are being used. An isolator or diode is not needed for this application.

You will need to twist the Cover # 2500-3755E off the top of the Stromberg Carlson Electric Trailer Jack # JET-3755. Then you will see the hex head inside the jack the Crank Handle # SC94VR will fit onto. To raise the trailer you will need to turn the handle counter clockwise and to drop the jack you will spin the handle clockwise.
